Southwest to offer direct flights to Phoenix, Nashville

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport and Southwest Airlines will be offering nonstop flights from the Magic City to Nashville and Phoenix. The change comes at a time when the low cost carrier is reportedly testing the market to decide on additional flight destinations.

“This is an opportunity to show Southwest that this community can and will support additional nonstop flights,” said Ron Mathieu, president and CEO of the Birmingham Airport Authority. “With more passengers choosing to fly out of the airport and a robust economic outlook in this region, there’s every reason to be optimistic about future growth.”

The nonstop Nashville flights will run from November through early January.

Southwest will also offer a nonstop flight from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth to Milwaukee for those traveling to the Alabama-Wisconsin football game in September.

Birmingham Shuttlesworth also offers nonstop service to 20 other airports in 17 cities across the U.S.
