Rep. Chad Fincher, R-Semmes, announced Thursday that he will not seek reelection for a third term in the Alabama House of Representatives and will instead focus on his new role as the Executive Director of the Mobile Area Association of Realtors.
“It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of the 102nd District,” Fincher said in a statement. “I am so thankful for the overwhelming support of my family and so many friends over the past 8 years. I’m proud and humbled by what I and my colleagues in the House of Representatives have accomplished in Montgomery, and because of that I truly believe my time in office has made a difference in Alabama. Now it is time to let other leaders carry on that legacy.”
Fincher gained statewide recognition last year as the House sponsor of the Alabama Accountability Act, the GOP’s landmark school choice bill.
“It has been an honor to work with such a distinguished group of leaders on both sides of the aisle in the Alabama legislature,” Fincher said. “I am personally grateful to House Speaker Mike Hubbard, Senate Pro Tem Del Marsh, and my friends in the Mobile Delegation for their support. Together we worked to pass much-needed, hard-fought reforms like teacher tenure reform under the Students First Act and school choice under the Alabama Accountability Act, which I believe will have a lasting, positive legacy on Alabama’s future.”
In addition to his two terms in the Alabama House, Fincher also ran for Congress last year in a crowded Republican primary.
He said he now plans to continue serving the state in other ways.
“I ran for office because I’ve always believed that service is a responsibility, and not an option,” said Fincher. “I remain committed to serving my community in South Alabama, and look forward to doing so in a different capacity as the Executive Director of the Mobile Area Association of Realtors.”
Fincher is currently the Chairman of the House Agriculture and Forestry Committee, and sits on the House Ways and Means Committee and the Mobile County Delegation Committee.
