Alleged serial killer Stacy Lee Drake was captured in Morrilton, Arkansas after a 22-mile car chase. Authorities believe that Drake murdered a 62-year-old Tuscaloosa man, Rusty Anderson, last month. Investigators say that Anderson was found shot to death at the local Alcoholics Anonymous clubhouse off Jack Warner Parkway on May 14.
Drake, a 50-year-old transient, was found in a wooded area in Morrilton, population 7,000, in Conway County, Arkansas, after an extensive manhunt by authorities.
Drake is also wanted in connection to three murders in Oklahoma. The slayings were in conjunction with two separate carjackings.
Investigators from Alabama are now in Arkansas, where Drake is currently being held at the Conway County Detention Center.
Drake was convicted of armed robbery and burglary in Arizona in 1994 and sentenced to ten years. Despite being a problem inmate, he was released early in 2002.
In 2003, Drake was convicted again—this time for burglary and aggravated assault of a police officer in Arizona with pepper spray. He was later convicted of assault with a deadly weapon while in prison.
Drake was charged with robbing a liquor store in Guymon, Oklahoma, suspected of robbing a gas station in Ozark, Alabama, a liquor store in Dothan, Alabama, in 2010, and a crime spree in Pickens County.
In 2010, Drake pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, carjacking, and brandishing a gun during a violent carjacking in Pickens County that ended with a 90-mile-per-hour police chase in Gordo.
Drake was released to the Jimmie Hale Mission in Birmingham in 2022.
Drake then left to go on a crime spree that included armed robberies, carjackings, and murders.
He was only in Tuscaloosa for two weeks when he allegedly killed Anderson and stole his vehicle. Anderson’s vehicle was spotted leaving the county, triggering the Sheriff’s Department to ask the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force to get involved in the case. Anderson’s vehicle still has not been found.
On Tuesday, two people were found dead in a business in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. Drake is believed to be responsible for another murder in Gans, Oklahoma.
Drake was spotted next in Conway County buying camping supplies. The Arkansas National Guard and the Arkansas Division of Community Correction assisted the Arkansas State Police in the search.
There are outstanding federal charges pending on Drake for violating his parole.
Investigators from various jurisdictions are checking to see if Drake is possibly connected to unsolved crimes in their area.
