Sens. Britt, Tuberville rally behind Doug Collins’ vision to strengthen VA for America’s heroes

U.S. Sens. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) are showing their support for President Donald Trump’s nominee for Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary.

Trump’s pick to lead the VA, Doug Collins, testified in front of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee on Tuesday. Collins is a a former Georgia Republican House representative and Air Force Reserve chaplain.

“Veterans will always be able to use the health care system, the issue is how we make it better,” Collins said. “We don’t do the same things 40 years ago that we do today. Our newer veterans deserve every access to finding care where they can.”

Britt believes that Collins has proven he’s the right man for the job.

“Doug Collins will fight for America’s veterans because he himself knows what it’s like to serve,” Britt said on X. “I am confident he will ensure our veterans have timely access to VA care and benefits while improving this institution that cares for our heroes.”

Tuberville, who sits on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, questioned the former Congressman during the hearing.

“In 2023, it was reported to us that some of our community care systems were funding illegal aliens. Health care. Would you please look into that once you take up this office?” Tuberville asked Collins.

“Yes Senator I will,” Collins responded. “I do not believe any money that’s taken outside the mission of the VA to help the veteran is a worthy cause of the money that has been appropriated for the veteran, and we will not be doing that.”

Tuberville later said on X that Collins’ comment was “well said.”
