SEC schools dominate list of most valuable college football programs

They say in the Southeastern Conference that “it just means more” — that continues to ring true both on and off the field.

While the SEC has gone a couple of seasons without capturing a national championship in football, the overall strength of the league—especially with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma—is arguably higher than ever.

That dominance extends beyond the playoff rankings and standings. It shows up on the balance sheet, too.

The Athletic recently released its rankings of the most valuable programs in college football, and unsurprisingly, the top 10 is dominated by teams from the SEC:

The valuations were given based on the hypothetical reality of wealthy perspective firms getting the chance to bid on the programs similar to how things are done in professional sports when a team is sold.

Unsurprisingly, the Texas Longhorns came in at the top spot and the only program with a valuation above $2 billion, sitting at $2.3 billion.

The Georgia Bulldogs come in at No. 2 at just under $2 billion while Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan round out the top-five.

Four of the five remaining teams in the top-ten are all from the SEC including the Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 6, $1.74 billion), Oklahoma Sooners (No. 7, $1.49 billion), Tennessee Volunteers (No. 9, $1.37 billion), and LSU Tigers (No. 10, $1.23 billion).

Hopefully, programs being bought and sold never becomes reality, but the numbers are interesting in the hypothetical nonetheless.
