Jeana Ross and Alan Miller came out on top of a crowded GOP primary election field Tuesday to advance to a special election runoff in four weeks.

Ross received 1,404 votes for 39.23% for the top spot in the Alabama House District 27 primary special election. Miller collected 737 votes (20.59%) to finish second.

The seat became vacant when former State Rep. Wes Kitchens was elected to the Alabama Senate in January.

Since no one received the 50% plus one majority, Ross and Miller will advance to the special primary run-off election April 30. Because there is no Democratic candidate in the race, the winner will represent the district in the Alabama House.

The unofficial results are:

  • Jena Ross: 1,404 votes, 39.23%
  • Alan Miller: 737 votes, 20.59%
  • Bill Stricklend: 532 votes, 14.86%
  • Bill Hancock: 484 votes, 13.52%
  • Billy Ray Todd: 312 votes, 8.72%
  • Stacy Lee George: 110 votes, 3.07%

“It was amazing to have so many outstanding individuals who wanted to serve our party and represent the people of Marshall County,” Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl said. “Congratulations to Alan Miller and Jena Ross for advancing to the run-off election. I look forward to watching this next phase of the campaign process.”
