Less than 12 hours after saying he would step down from a powerful House committee, U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers said Monday night he would not resign from the panel.
Rogers, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said leadership from both sides of the aisle urged him to stay on the House Steering Committee.
“I have been surprised that an overwhelming number of members, both rank & file and leadership, have urged me to stay on Steering,” Rogers (R-Saks) told Politico. “Consequently, I plan to remain on Steering for the balance of this Congress.”
His decision to step down Monday morning came in the wake of Friday night’s altercation with Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida during balloting for the Speaker of the House.
