Robert Aderholt: Senate Democrats are forcing people to go without a paycheck

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) thinks Senate Democrats should be reasonable and vote to open the government.

Aderholt, who chairs the House Appropriations Committee, told WVTM News 13 that there’s no reason Democrats should be against the Continuing Resolution to fund the government.

“It’s not a it’s not a win-win for Republicans or a win win for Democrats,” Aderholt said. “It’s just funds the government. It’s no gimmicks. There’s nothing in there that does anything for Democrats or republican it’s just that funds the government. And that’s what we’re waiting on.”

A majority of the Democrats in the Senate have voted thirteen times against a clean continuing resolution that would fund the government through November.

While Republicans currently have a majority in the Senate, they have been unable to overcome the 60 vote threshold to avoid a filibuster.

Aderholt also reacted to the fact that funds will soon run out for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

“I know it’s tough on a lot of families, and so that’s number one,” he explained. “That’s why the Democrats need to come to the table and vote to go along with opening the government and funding the government so these programs can be funded. But number two, it’s an opportunity for, I guess, for every for all of us to try to reach out and help those that are that are caught in that really difficult place right now.”

Republicans have criticized the Democrats for wanting expand subsides for Obamacare, which they argue means some of that money will pay for the healthcare of those who have entered the country illegally.
