Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL02) today took time to send Christmas cards to military personnel stationed overseas and is encouraging constituents to join her in spreading holiday cheer to men and women in uniform serving around the globe.

Rep. Roby and her congressional staff are taking part in the “Holiday Mail for Heroes” program sponsored by the American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes, which for the sixth straight year have teamed up to help Americans send holiday greetings to service members. Three schools in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District are already participating, including Opp Middle School, Highlands Elementary in Dothan and Forrest Avenue Academic Magnet School in Montgomery, where Rep. Roby’s daughter, Margaret is a second grader.

Delivering hundreds of cards sent in from these schools to the Red Cross collection site today, Rep. Roby ensured event organizers they could expect many more from Alabamians.

“Considering all that our men and women in uniform and their families have sacrificed for our country, sending a Christmas card really is the least we can do to show our appreciation and support,” Rep. Roby said. “It’s important for us to remind military personnel stationed overseas that we are thinking about them and praying for their safety. I encourage everyone back home in Alabama to take a moment and send a message of hope to our troops. If your school, church or family want to participate, the Red Cross has made it easy, and there’s still plenty of time.”

Those wishing to send Christmas greetings though the “Holiday Mail for Heroes” program should mail cards to:

Only cards can be mailed, not enclosed letters or attachments. Cards should be signed and addressed generically as “Dear Service Member,” or “To an American Hero.” The deadline for having cards to the P.O. Box is Friday, December 7th.
