The New Orleans Pelicans are expected to announce at an event in Birmingham on Wednesday that the team is launching a G League affiliate in Alabama’s biggest city, per reporting by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The G League is the NBA’s official minor league, having been called the NBA Developmental League until 2017. The “G” stands for Gatorade, the league’s newfound sponsor.

Birmingham’s new team will reportedly start play in Erie, Pennsylvania, next season until renovations are complete on the BJCC’s Legacy Arena.
