Rep. Randall Shedd named House Majority Whip

State Rep. Randall Shedd (R-Fairview) will become the new House Majority Whip for the Alabama House of Representatives. His term in office will be include 2022-2026.

The position of House Majority Whip is the third highest position in the Alabama Republican caucus.

In his new role, Shedd will be responsible for conducting vote counts on major issues and legislation, helping manage floor debate, and relaying members’ thoughts and concerns to the leadership.

House Majority Leader Scott Stadthagen (R-Hartselle), discussed Shedd and his new role of whip.

“Rep. Shedd’s knowledge of legislative procedure and passion for making our state the best it can be is obvious to anyone who has met him,” Stadthagen said in a statement.  “Throughout his career as a member of the House, Rep. Shedd has devoted himself to advancing conservative legislation that benefits the people of Alabama, and I am certain that he will do an outstanding job in this role.”

Shedd is looking forward to his new position.

“Having an accurate and reliable vote count is essential to passing any bill on the House floor, and I will work hard to rally support for GOP issues while measuring where each Republican member stands,” Shedd said. “I am eager to serve as the members’ voice to the leadership and, in return, the leadership’s voice to the members.”

He has also been named chairman of the House Transportation, Utilities, and Infrastructure Committee.

Prior to the upcoming legislative session, Shedd served as chair of the House Urban and Rural Development Committee and was also a member of the House Republican Caucus Steering Committee.

Before Shedd was elected to the state House in 2013, he was chairman of the Cullman County Commission and mayor of Fairview, Alabama.
