U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt has worked diligently for years to improve the United States Postal Service. The government organization that has been criticized by many, on both the left and the right, is responsible for delivering millions of packages and pieces of mail across the country every day.

According to Aderholt (R-Haleyville), the USPS in its current form lacks efficiency and competent leadership.

In a post on X Wednesday evening, the lawmaker requested assistance from billionaire and presidential advisor, Elon Musk, to help address the issue. Musk is leading the charge in Washington D.C. to stamp out superfluous spending and improve organizations that have been run poorly due to government bureaucracy.

“I know @elonmusk you’ve got a lot on your plate right now, but would love your help to get the @USPS back on track,” said Aderholt. “It’s currently a disaster and an embarrassment. It’s by far the biggest source of complaint we receive about the federal government.”

In June 2024, Aderholt also posted about the shortcomings of the agency on X emphasizing the common ground shared by Republicans and Democrats on the matter.

As part of his efforts, the Congressman introduced and sponsored the bipartisan Deliver for Democracy Act. The legislation was crafted to support local newspapers hampered by regular postal delays and surging rate increases from the USPS.

Aderholt released a statement following the bill’s introduction again reiterating that the issues with USPS are bipartisan in nature.

“There is concern from every corner of the political spectrum to get our system of delivering mail back to the level of quality it once was and that we all expect.”

Aderholt is presently serving his fourteenth term representing Alabama’s 4th Congressional District.
