BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Chain electronics retailer RadioShack is shutting down 28 of its 59 Alabama stores as part of the company’s chapter 11 bankruptcy announced last week.

Locations in Cullman, Bessemer, Montgomery, Birmingham, Hoover, Mobile, Oxford, Huntsville, Gadsden, Scottsboro, Fort Payne, Prattville, Leeds, Calera, Saraland, Phenix City, Center Point, Tuscaloosa, Opelika, Huntsville, and Troy will be closing by March 31st. Deep discounts on merchandise will be found at the locations being liquidated.

RadioShack’s slow demise has come as more customers look to web-based retailers like Amazon for consumer electronics.

The chain is closing 1,784 of its more than 4,000 outlets in an attempt to restructure. Cellular provider Sprint is also going to occupy up to a third of floor space in RadioShack locations.

It is currently unknown how many Alabama jobs are going to be effected by the closings. The chain employed an estimated 21,000 nationwide as of Thursday.

The entire list of closing RadioShack locations can be found here.
