Candidates seeking election to Alabama’s two open federal seats are entering the final stretch of the 2022 primary election cycle.
With just under 36 days left until the May 24 primary election, U.S. Senate and fifth congressional district hopefuls are looking to prove the strength of their respective campaigns by posting strong fundraising numbers headed into the final month of the race.
If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, the top two vote-getters will face off in the runoff election scheduled to occur on June 21, 2022.
U.S. Senate
U.S. Army veteran Mike Durant hauled in $291,846 worth of contributions, loaned his campaign $2,650,000 and recorded $1,362,311 in expenditures. His present cash-on-hand sits at $4,096,476.
Former Business Council of Alabama head Katie Britt recorded contributions totaling $1,394,129 and expenditures in the amount of $2,242,785. Her ending cash balance is $3,228,570.
U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) raised $489,675 and expended $973,150. He currently holds $1,570,248 cash-on-hand.
Fifth Congressional District
Madison County Commission chairman Dale Strong recorded $218,343 in contributions and $251,593 worth of expenditures. Strong currently holds $269,685 cash-on-hand.
Retired U.S. Army Col. Casey Wardynski hauled in $81,561 in cash receipts, loaned his campaign $19,000 and spent $176,647. His present cash-on-hand sits at $191,304.
Huntsville City Schools teacher Andy Blalock raised $14,031 and recorded $18,207 in expenditures. His ending cash-on-hand is $3,515.
Former State Sen. Paul Sanford raised $13,180 last quarter and recorded $33,476 in expenditures. His ending balance is $14,702.
Economic developer John Roberts raked in $7,605 in contributions, loaned his campaign $15,000 and expended $44,809. Roberts’ cash balance sits at $57,405.
Harrison Wright did not meet the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) $5,000 threshold required to file a report.
