Tallassee Mayor and Public Service Commission candidate John Hammock was arrested Saturday night by the Orange Beach Police Department for an alleged act of domestic violence.

According to reports, authorities responded to a call around 10:00 p.m. on Jan. 15 regarding an alleged domestic disturbance at the 26000 block of Perdido Beach Boulevard.

Upon arriving to the scene, authorities arrested Hammock on probable cause that he had committed an act of first-degree domestic violence.

The Tallassee Tribune reports that Hammock is being held at the Baldwin County Jail without bond until he appears before a judge.

A Saturday evening Facebook post published from Hammock’s official campaign page nearly three hours prior to his arrest states that the candidate had been campaigning in South Alabama. The post has since been removed.

The Tallassee mayor surrendered to authorities without incident, reports say. The matter is currently under investigation.

Hammock in Aug. 2020 faced a misdemeanor harassment charge in Elmore County. He maintained his innocence regarding the matter and the charges were later dismissed.

Hammock’s campaign declined Yellowhammer News’ request for comment.
