President Trump sides with Rep. Palmer on natural gas water heaters

President Donald Trump thinks U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) is right about keeping natural gas powered water heaters available.

The Trump Administration yesterday released a Statement of Administration Policy (SAP) in favor of Palmer’s legislation, H.J. Res 20. The resolution reverses the Biden-Harris Administration’s ban on gas-fired water heaters.

“This rule’s impact on the water heater market could set a dangerous precedent for further restrictions on natural gas appliances, making it harder for American home owners to maintain affordable living standards,” the SAP said. “The rule promotes more expensive condensing gas water heaters and creates hurdles for remodeling and replacement projects.”

Biden’s Department of Energy had put forward a new rule banning non-condensing, natural gas-fired water heaters by 2029. The Trump administration is arguing that it’s needed to help cut down on fossil fuel emissions and combat climate change.

“In their final days in office, the Biden-Harris Administration’s Department of Energy introduced a rule that would ban gas-fired water heaters,” said Palmer. “This egregious rule, if continued, would restrict consumer choice, limit the use of natural gas appliances, and increase prices for American families. I introduced H.J. Res 20 to disapprove of and rescind this rule because the American people deserve better.”

“I’m thankful that President Trump and his Administration agree that this rule, and any similar rules in the future, should be rescinded so that consumer choice is protected and prices remain affordable.”
