A Vietnam veteran in Prattville, Alabama, whose father served in the “Great War,” is being honored with a special medal.

Per a WSFA report, the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame will honor 85-year-old George Partridge this weekend with the Medal of Valor for his bravery in Vietnam.

“I don’t think what I did was special,” Partridge told WSFA.

Partridge faced death a few times as he flew the F-100 and a “spotter” plane in Vietnam.

“I came very close to having my name on the wall in Washington,” said Partridge.

Partridge served a total of 13 months in Vietnam and has recently written a manuscript about his father’s service and a book of his own detailing his life.

“I think my patriotism stands out in this book. I hope a lot of young people nowadays will read it,” he said.

Partridge explains that patriotism is not perceived in America the same as it once was.

“I wish people would remember why we are free today,” stated Partridge.

Partridge was raised in Georgia on a country farm. As he accepts the medal this weekend, he will reflect on how far life has taken him.

“By the grace of God, I am here,” said Partridge.

Partridge, who has a room in his Prattville home dedicated to his father and his love of all things military, explained that his father was a special man.

“He was a hero. I loved my parents,” said Patridge.

The special room in his home features helmets, flags, a gun-sight and medals.
