Physically disabled hunt dates announced; registration opens first week of October

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has scheduled deer hunts for hunters with physical disabilities beginning in November.

The hunts will run from late November to January in the M. Barnett Lawley Forever Wild Field Trial Area in Hale County. Registration starts Oct. 2.

“We are honored to provide hunting opportunities for all Alabamians, including those with physical disabilities,” said Conservation Commissioner Chris Blankenship. “Access to outdoor activities such as hunting should be available to everyone who has an interest.”

The hunt dates are:

Nov. 22, 29
Dec. 9, 13, 16
Jan. 3, 10, 17, 20, 24

Hunt availability is limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Hunters are limited to one hunt for the season and may bring an assistant to help. A hunting license and Conservation ID number are required.

Those with physical disabilities are required to fill out a Disabled Hunter Permit Application. The permit can be downloaded from the Physically Disabled Hunting Areas section of www.outdooralabama.com/hunting/where-hunt-alabama.

All deer harvested must be reported via Alabama’s Game Check system. Hunters will have 48 hours to Game Check their harvest through the Outdoor AL mobile app or online at www.outdooralabama.com.
