State House Rep. Phillip Pettus of Lauderdale County will be seeking another term in office, according to a campaign announcement issued Wednesday morning. The lawmaker is working to retain his role as the Alabama House District 1 representative, a position he has held since 2014. During his time in the state legislature, Pettus (R-Killen) has earned a reputation as an advocate and servant for those in his district.

The announcement noted that the former Alabama State Trooper is a “Republican committed to the values of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and strong local communities.”

“As your representative, I’ve fought to protect your hard-earned dollars and defend the conservative values that make our state strong,” said Pettus. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done, but there’s more to do—and I’m ready to continue delivering for the people of District 1.”

Pettus says his principles are firmly aligned with President Donald Trump.

“I proudly support Trump because he fights for the same values I do—faith, freedom, and fairness,” he said.

During his time in office, the lawmaker has made infrastructure a top priority, supporting investments in roads, bridges, and broadband that have helped connect communities across North Alabama. At the same time, Pettus has cut waste while ensuring services like education, public safety, and veterans’ programs are funded.

“Our people deserve good roads, safe neighborhoods, and strong schools—and they deserve a government that does more with less,” said Pettus. “That’s what I’ve delivered, and that’s what I’ll keep fighting for.”

A graduate of Rogers High School and the Alabama State Trooper Academy, Pettus is a husband, father, and grandfather. Pettus and his wife, Mary, are members of Atlas Church of Christ in Killen, AL.
