Pence: ‘No better place than Huntsville’ for Space Command

Former Vice President Mike Pence still thinks the Space Command Headquarters should be located in Huntsville.

The presidential candidate was in the Rocket City last Friday as a guest speaker for the Christian Men’s Conference at the Von Braun Center.

“With the launch of Space Force, I think there is no better place than Huntsville and Alabama for Space Command to be located,” Pence said in an interview with WHNT 19 News. “When you think of the hundreds or thousands of people who work in and around space there is no better community, in my judgment, that will support the work of Space Command.”

Pence was responding to a report by NBC News last month that said the Biden administration was seeking to reverse the decision to move Space Command from Colorado Springs.

“Having Space Command here in a community that for generations has been synonymous with space innovation,” he said to WAAY 31 News, “and supported all of our efforts not only in civilian space exploration but also in supporting all of the technology that supports our national defense there’s only one place it should be and that’s right here in the hub of the American Space Program, Huntsville, Alabama.”

President Donald Trump charged Pence with revitalizing the space program and forming the Space Force.
