U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) is again calling out the Biden administration over its energy policies and how they undermine national security.
Palmer, who sits on the Energy and Commerce Committee, criticized the president’s policies during the Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security hearing Tuesday.

“We’re undermining our own national security, and the national security of the Western Hemisphere by doing this,” Palmer said. “We need to secure our hydrocarbon infrastructure. We’re not depending on any other nation for our energy security. We have it right here.
“But if we go to 100% renewables, we will be dependent on China.”
The congressman pointed out the vulnerabilities and high prices of energy in Europe, and warned that could happen to the U.S.
“Today, Germany’s electricity prices are three or four times higher than they are here,” he said. “In the U.K., residential energy consumption has declined by 10%, not because they have become more efficient, Mr. Chairman, but because they can’t afford it.
“That’s where this country is heading.”
Palmer reminded the committee on how America’s adversaries in the world are using Biden’s energy policies against the country’s national security interests.
“It is a national security issue to be taking down our hydrocarbon infrastructure,” he said. “China is building a coal-fired plant, one about every two weeks, but they’ve built 14 outside of China. They are bringing power to sub-Saharan African countries. They are moving into Latin American, and we’re letting it happen. And we’re sitting here with this ESG mentality, this attitude that we’re going to go completely renewable. And from an engineering and technological perspective, it will not happen.”
He also believes Western nations should learn from the issues that came as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“And if there’s anything that we can learn from the war in Ukraine,” he said, “it’s that no nation should be dependent on an adversarial nation for its energy supply. It becomes a massive national security issue.”
