Orion Amphitheater marks two years of musical majesty in Rocket City

Huntsville’s beloved Orion Amphitheater is celebrating its second anniversary this month. The Orion, since opening its doors in 2022, has been bringing music, entertainment, festivals, and fun to the Tennessee Valley.

For decades, the primary entertainment and gathering venue in Huntsville was the Von Braun Civic Center. Eventually, however, a need was realized by city leaders for an ultra modern, large scale outdoor facility that could accommodate the most elaborate and noteworthy of entertainers.

Performances at the Orion, in its short time of being open, have included major names like Dave Matthews Band, Jason Isbell, Kenny Chesney, The Black Keys, Widespread Panic, Jelly Roll, Willie Nelson, and Snoop Dogg.

One of the members of that group, Jason Isbell, offered high praise for the Orion while performing there.

“Man, this place is so good,” he told the packed audience. “This place is so beautiful. Last show of the year-and this is a perfect way to end it.”

For 2024, the venue has announced that tickets are currently available for the following shows:

  • Greta Van Fleet: May 8 at 7 p.m.
  • NEEDTOBREATHE: May 24 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Lainey Wilson: August 8 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Styx and Foreigner: August 17 at 6:45 p.m.

The Orion hosted 32 shows in 2023 alone and sold 187,000 tickets. Around 46% of of which were sold out of state, with the majority being from Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida. It also was featured in Rolling Stone last year.
