Oh no-o-o-o, Mr. Bill’s! Long-time Northport diner closes

Mr. Bill’s Southern Diner, a Northport staple since 1992, has closed its doors for the last time.

Visittuscaloosa.com said of the restaurant, “The best thing about Mr. Bill’s is that even with all of the new additions to our facilities and menu, we are still a place where you can experience the “small-town” atmosphere. It’s the combination of these things that sets us apart from other restaurants. A warm, welcoming restaurant that has everything for children and adults alike!”

After the sudden announcement, hundreds of comments began to roll in thanking the diner for its years of service to the Northport area. Many of those comments praised the restaurant’s meatloaf, catfish, chicken and dressing and chicken and dumplings. Some also remembered the “small town atmosphere” within the restaurant.

While no exact reason was given for closing the diner, it has faced staffing issues, according to its social media pages.

The remaining food will be donated to Baseball Country, a baseball program and youth ministry.
