State Rep. Wes Allen (R-Troy) will indeed have an opponent in his bid to be the GOP nominee for Alabama’s Secretary of State position up for grabs on the 2022 ballot.

Yellowhammer News has learned Tennessee Valley Republican Club chairman Chris Horn, a standout football player at J.O. Johnson High School and later fullback for the University of Michigan, will formally announce his candidacy for Secretary of State next week.

Records on the Alabama Secretary of State website show Horn filed his “Principal Campaign Committee” paperwork on Monday.

This will not be Horn’s first foray into electoral politics. In 2014, Horn vied for House District 53’s seat in the Alabama House of Representatives and was defeated by the seat’s current occupant, House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels (D-Huntsville).

In addition to serving as chairman for the Tennessee Valley Republican Club, Horn is also the North Alabama outreach director for the Alabama Republican Party and is a small business owner.

Earlier this year, Mountain Brook native Laura Clark revealed her intentions to run for the spot on the Republican ballot but opted not to run a few days later.

Republicans will have the opportunity to select their preference for who to represent the GOP on the general election ballot on May 24, 2022.
