Anti-tax leader Grover Norquist is signaling he’d rather see Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan remain in the House than attempt a run for president in 2016, according to The Hill.

“My argument against Paul Ryan as a candidate is wholly based on the fact that we need him exactly where he is, holding the House of Representatives together and setting the agenda for the entire party. Whoever wins the presidency will pass the Ryan budget,” said Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist.

Norquist did say, though, that he believes Ryan could be president “some day.”

The piece, written by Alexander Bolton, includes two other reasons to bolster the notion Ryan is likely to pass on a 2016 bid:  A GOP strategist is quoted as saying the presidency is “not a lifelong ambition for [Ryan],” and he also has no plans to travel to the early voting states of New Hampshire or South Carolina in 2013.

Ryan was third in TheRUN2016/cygnal flashpoll of Iowa Republicans taken in July; he was fourth in a recent New Hampshire survey.
