No school system for Gardendale, Alabama

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta ruled today that Gardendale, near Birmingham, cannot form its own school system.

The court also agreed with a federal judge’s finding that racial motives were involved in the attempt to split from the Jefferson County system.

The ruling nullifies part of an order from last year that allowed Gardendale to form its own system.

Bill Pryor, a former Alabama Attorney General, wrote the opinion.
