Nick Derzis elected Mayor of Hoover in decisive win in over Frank Brocato

(Nick Derzis)

Hoover voters decisively chose longtime police chief Nick Derzis as their next mayor Tuesday, ending Frank Brocato’s two-term tenure.

Unofficial returns posted by the city show Derzis taking 9,172 votes to Brocato’s 7,322 – 55.6% to 44.4%. With a clear majority, no runoff is required.

Brocato conceded Tuesday night, congratulating his “friend” and successor as precincts finished reporting.

The result capped a campaign that pitted two familiar faces with contrasting approaches: Derzis ran on faster execution, accountability, and a sharper focus on crime and day-to-day service delivery. Brocato offered continuity.

“We’re gonna bring new vision,” Derzis told supporters. “We’re gonna bring excitement.”
