Next hearing in Alabama Democratic Party leadership struggle set

Montgomery County Circuit Judge Greg Griffin has scheduled the next episode in the ongoing Alabama Democratic Party leadership saga, according to a report by the Montgomery Advertiser. The hearing will reportedly take place on December 5.

Nancy Worley, who has served since 2013 as the head of the state party, filed a lawsuit claiming she remains the head of the Alabama Democrats. A group of Democrats led by longtime power player Joe Reed recognizes her as the state chair.

A rival faction, backed by the Democratic National Committee and U.S. Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL), recently elected State Rep. Chris England (D-Tuscaloosa) as their chairperson.

The England-led group is seeking to dismiss the Worley lawsuit. Their motion to dismiss will be the subject of the December 5 hearing, per the Montgomery Advertiser.

Both groups purport to represent the Alabama Democratic Party while each resolutely maintaining the illegitimacy of the other.
