BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The U.S. Women’s National Team that stunned the world Sunday in its record-smashing 5-2 victory over Japan in the World Cup final is bringing its mojo to the Magic City September 20th.

The #USWNT will face the Australian National Team in an international “friendly” match—essentially an exhibition game—in the city’s historic Legion Field, where multiple international soccer matches were held during the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. The Women’s National Team has also played numerous friendlies in Birmingham in the past, but this appearance would likely bring thousands of soccer fans still buzzing over the team’s World Cup win to the city.

Bruno Event Team President and CEO Gene Hallman first floated the possibility of the team’s nationwide victory tour making a stop in Alabama on his Facebook page after their World Cup win earlier this month receiving a very enthusiastic response.

“Birmingham has always done a great job supporting international soccer events,” Hallman told Yellowhammer.

The team had previously announced matches in Pittsburgh on August 16th and in Chattanooga on August 19th, with an additional four stops expected to be announced this week. Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field has already sold out its 26,000 seat stadium for the match, and Chattanooga sold its own 20,000 seat stadium out quickly after its announcement, as well.

Tickets will go on sale Friday, July 31st, and will be priced “so lots of families can attend,” according to Bruno Event Team.
