For months now, and for the coming months, the American media will continue to tell you what a terrible job President Donald Trump has done in dealing with the coronavirus.
They will praise blue state governors like Andrew Cuomo of New York and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, even though their states are dealing with this terribly. They will attack red state governors like Brian Kemp of Georgia and Ron DeSantis of Florida for every perceived slight.
But if you look at the numbers, where would you rather live?
- New York — 135 deaths per 100,000 residents
- Michigan — 43 deaths per 100,000 residents
- Georgia — 13 deaths per 100,000 residents
- Florida — 7 deaths per 100,000 residents
(By comparison, Alabama sits at eight deaths per 100,000.)
Cuomo’s approval is near 80%, while DeSantis appears to be dropping.
Why? Framing.
Cuomo’s decision to put COVID-19 patients in nursing homes has led to 25% of the state’s deaths.
This isn’t even discussed. No Democrats are asked to defend this guy.
Instead, we get stories about how Trump didn’t shut the border fast enough or broadly enough, while the media and Democrats (and the Chinese and the World Health Organization) declared it was racist at the time.
They all know this, but this is where they are right now.
The coronavirus pandemic just highlights a problem with how the media has acted as a gatekeeper for as long as I have followed politics.
The following “facts” have fully exposed been exposed as lies in the last week:
Russia colluded with the Trump campaign! Nope. They knew it never happened but it went on for years.
Michael Flynn was a threat to national security and was compromised by the Russians! Nope. he did nothing wrong.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper were honest brokers and told America the truth! Nope. They used their daily platforms with compliant media outlets to outright lie about what they had seen, and that has been exposed.
We must believe all women! Nope. We must only believe all women if they accuse Republicans running for Senate in Alabama, a conservative Supreme Court nominee or a Republican candidate for president.
Where are the screeching headlines? Where are the breaking news alerts? Where is the breathless coverage and heavy sighing as they announce to their viewers that they have been lied to?
Nowhere.
Why? Because they knew all along. They just kept pushing the narratives for years, and the implosion of those narratives will not even be a blip on the radar for them.
The rest of this year will consist of the media and their Democrats complaining about the pandemic and the response to it. It has to be because what they were planning on using has been exposed as a series of complete lies, known falsehoods and examples of utter hypocrisy.
