(Opinion) On Monday night, many of our Senators failed to stand alongside the unborn by voting against the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The bill aimed to ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, yet failed to garner the 60 votes needed to end the madness. With a 51-46 vote, the bill was rejected.
Two Republican Senators, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, voted against the bill. Three Democratic Senators, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Joe Donnelly of Indiana voted in favor of the bill.
Under the bill, anyone who performed an abortion after 20 weeks of gestation would face a fine, up to five years in prison, or both.
After the vote, President Trump issued a statement expressing his disappointment saying, “We must defend those who cannot defend themselves. I urge the Senate to reconsider its decision and pass legislation that will celebrate, cherish, and protect life.”
Around 20 states already ban abortion after 20 weeks.
After voting ended, the lead sponsor of the bill, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. implied that he wanted to give it another shot.
“We will be back,” said Graham. “Twenty states have passed a version of it. The more the public understands about what we are trying to do the better off we will be.”
Along with China, Singapore, North Korea, Vietnam, Canada, and the Netherlands, the United States will continue the murdering of babies after 20 weeks of pregnancy. This is beyond despicable! The Democrats, who are so persistent in seeing that the “dreamers” receive citizenship, ignore the well-being of unborn American children. The party of love, tolerance, and acceptance has failed the American people in voting against this bill.
The Democrats have put illegal aliens ahead of the American people for so long that they have forgotten what it is like to assist the American people. This must end. The Democrats must open their eyes to the vile destruction of abortion. Once they awaken, I believe the Democrats will find that they have made the correct decision. While the Democrats may not be in favor of ending abortion entirely, they could have easily compromised with Republicans by supporting the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
Should it have passed, the bill would have only prevented abortions after 20 weeks, which is a great first step for Republicans. The real “dreamers” in America are those that are still in the womb. They have an entire life ahead of them and the Democrats are preventing them from living that life.
While the day may never come, I look forward to when no more babies can be viciously murdered only because they aren’t wanted or viewed as a burden. Democrats have a nasty habit of calling Trump inhumane in calling for the deportation of illegal aliens, yet they are in favor of abortion – one of the most inhumane procedures that exists in our country.
Abortion should only be permitted when life-threatening issues are present or in cases of rape or incest. I stand beside the babies who have no voice and I urge you all to do the same. A healthy future for children depends on what we do today.
