U.S. Reps. Rogers, Palmer remember service members killed in Afghanistan bombing one year ago

Two Alabama congressmen are honoring the 13 service men and women who were killed during a bomb attack in Afghanistan last year.

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks), lead Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement Friday honoring the “bravery and sacrifice” of the fallen service members.

“On August 26th, 2021, 13 servicemembers lost their lives in a terrorist attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport,” Rogers said. “As a nation, we ask our servicemembers to defend freedom and fight evil across the globe. These brave men and women answered that call, and our nation will never forget their bravery and sacrifice.”

The congressman once again criticized President Joe Biden’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal leading up to the attack.

“We still lack answers from the Biden Administration on why military advice was ignored,” he lamented, “why the withdrawal was based on a date and not the reality on the ground, and why no one has been held accountable for the security failures that led to the bombing one year ago. Those responsible for the failures that led to the loss of American lives must be held accountable and I will continue to push to ensure that they are.”

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover), chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee, also honored their sacrifice with a statement on Twitter.

“One year ago today, we lost 13 brave American service men and women in Kabul during the chaotic evacuation of Afghanistan,” Palmer’s tweet reads. “We will never forget their sacrifices. Please join Ann and I in remembering them and praying for their families today.”
