U.S. Rep. Martha Roby: Easter brings an abundance of hope

For the past several weeks, all the world’s focus has been distinctly turned to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This current health crisis and its effects have taken center stage globally, halting the everyday lives of billions.

The outbreak and rapid spread of the coronavirus has allowed uncertainty, worry, and stress to invade the lives of many. During this unprecedented time when a sense of fear is present, it is important that we have a source of hope.

Although this year’s Easter holiday looks much different than those in the past, it arrives at the perfect time when many are seeking hope.

For Christians, Easter is one of the most special days of the year, as we gather with family, friends, and the Christian community to celebrate the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection. The biblical story of Jesus being raised from the dead is one that is full of hope. It is a constant reminder that our hope is in Heaven, and whatever obstacles life puts in our path are temporary situations that we will overcome.

While churches across the nation will be empty on Easter Sunday, I believe we have a unique opportunity to be united now more than ever. As we are facing the challenge of staying at home and following social distancing guidelines, I encourage you to spend some time remembering just how blessed we are to be Americans, where we can enjoy the freedom to worship however we please.

Whether you are spending this Easter at home with your family or even by yourself, let’s take this opportunity to spread the true joy of this significant day and give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.

We are a strong nation full of resilient people, and we will not let this health crisis knock us down. From the Roby family to yours, Happy Easter and may God bless you!

Martha Roby represents Alabama’s Second Congressional District. She lives in Montgomery, Alabama, with her husband Riley and their two children.
