U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) joined 31 of his U.S. House of Representatives colleagues in demanding answers from President Joe Biden regarding Biden’s plan to wage a door-to-door vaccine campaign.
In a letter sent to the president on Friday, Moore and other members of the House asserted that the plan violated the privacy of Americans and was beyond Biden’s scope of authority.
In a statement to Yellowhammer News, Moore expressed his concerns about the amount of federal overreach occurring under such a plan.
“Going door-to-door to ask Americans about their vaccine status is another step by the Biden administration to transform the federal government into ‘Big Brother,’” he said. “We have the responsibility to kill any scheme from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris that gives more power to an out-of-control federal government and endangers our fundamental liberties. Americans should have the expectation of privacy.”
Moore’s statement comes in response to an announcement from Biden earlier this week that his administration would implement a door-to-door effort to track the vaccination record of Americans.
“Now we need to go community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood and often times door-to-door – literally knocking on doors – to get help to the remaining people protected from the virus,” Biden said.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki acknowledged that the Biden administration is undertaking “targeted community door-to-door outreach” to “get remaining Americans vaccinated by ensuring that they have the information they need on how both safe and accessible the vaccine is.”
Moore and his colleagues in their letter to the president stated, “Your administration’s decision to go door-to-door to coerce individuals to receive a COVID-19 vaccine is deeply disturbing and violates the privacy of Americans,” the GOP lawmakers wrote in the letter first obtained by Fox. “The private health information of millions of Americans should never be a matter of concern for the federal government. Americans must be free to make their own personal health choices.”
The House members concluded their letter with a list of questions directed to the administration. Topics covered in the inquiry included a request for the constitutional authority under which Biden was acting, the administration’s use of databases and whether there was a plan “to identify the homes of Americans who have not been vaccinated.”
The group requested responses by July 23.
U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) was the other member of the Alabama congressional delegation who joined Moore as a signer of the letter.
