The FBI’s raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate is an example of the agency holding a double standard in who it chooses to pursue, according to U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover).
Congressional Republicans, along with some prominent Democrats, have called on the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to immediately address the search of Trump’s home and justify why authorities determined that the raid was necessary.
In a statement reacting to the DOJ’s unprecedented action against a former president, Palmer said the raid proved that the Biden administration was determined to “destroy their political opponents.”
“This unprecedented search and seizure at the residence of a former President of the United States shows a clear double standard by those leading the [DOJ] and the [FBI],” declared Palmer. “These actions by the FBI further erode confidence in what used to be one of the most well-respected law enforcement agencies in the world and demonstrates the length the Biden Administration and the Democrats will go to destroy their political opponents.”
The congressman pointed to the DOJ’s failure to pursue action against 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over her use of a private server to conduct official U.S. Department of State business.
“There were no evening raids of residences or seizures of documents when Hillary Clinton and her lawyers held classified emails on a private server or after she had that server wiped while the DOJ sat by and waited for it to be turned over,” he noted. “Again, there was no raid, no prosecution, and no charges filed in that instance.”
“This contrast shows that we live in a two-tiered justice system where evidence of wrongdoing doesn’t matter, only your political beliefs,” concluded Palmer.
