With the midterm elections coming up in just a few weeks, Republicans are continuing to spread the message on why they believe a majority GOP in Congress will help the country.
Wednesday on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program,” U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) discussed why he wants Republicans to win in November.
“[W]e’re in trouble if we continue to let these people stay in power,” Tuberville said, “but that being said, capitalism versus socialism in an election about 48 days from now.”
The senator focused on the border crisis and how it’s affecting every state in America.
“It is a major problem for every citizen in this country,” he said. “Normally, you don’t see because if you’re in a state away from the border it doesn’t really affect you, but it’s affecting everybody now. We’re getting close to 4 million come across the border in the last two years. The fentanyl, we’re losing 150 to 300 young people and older people a day to overdose, and that’s like a commercial airline crashing every day and the could care less.”
Tuberville said immigration is not a difficult problem to solve, but he believes the opposing party just doesn’t have the will to solve it.
“The Democrats could fix this in five minutes,” he argued, “but they don’t want to. It’s their choice to do it this way … they could give Border Patrol and ICE the authority, which they have. Stand at the border, continue to build the wall, and tell them ‘you ain’t coming, turn around and go back.’ That’s what Trump did. Send you home. Don’t let them come in … we could stop it tomorrow. We could give the Border Patrol and ICE the ability to say ‘nope, you’re not coming in. You’re going to stay over there. We might take your name and look at your situation, but you’re going to stay and remain in Mexico.’ That’s what Trump did, and make a decision while they’re over there.”
The freshman senator thinks the Democrats have no interest in actually securing the border because they want more people to come into the country and vote blue.
“They’re worried about getting re-elected and getting more voters across the line,” he said, “and I think they’re going to be very disappointed that a lot of the Hispanics will say ‘we didn’t come over here to a country like ours where we left. We came over to a free country where we can work hard and make a living,’ and they’re looking at the Democrats just totally destroying the economy, a crime wave, everything going on.”
Tuberville concluded by saying Republicans better work to solve these problems if they do regain the majority in November.
“A huge election in November,” he exclaimed, “and by golly when we do take over we better do something. I’m sick and tired of hearing all these so-called leaders we have in the Republican Party say ‘we’re going to do this or that.’ We better do something, and if we don’t, it’s over. So hopefully, the American people will give us one more chance of taking back leadership.”
