Former President Donald Trump and Sen. Tommy Tuberville are set to take the stage Friday night at the Alabama Republican Party’s summer dinner in Montgomery.
“We are pleased to announce that Senator Tommy Tuberville will introduce the President at Friday night’s ALGOP Summer Dinner,” ALGOP Chairman John Wahl said. “President Trump and Senator Tuberville are two of the most popular political figures in the State of Alabama. I am looking forward to hearing from these two conservative leaders when they make their remarks.”

They’re sure to have plenty of material to work with following this week’s news about President Biden’s unilateral decision to overturn a Trump-era order to locate Space Command HQ at Huntsville’s Redstone Arsenal. Latest reports indicate that President Biden himself was the tie-breaker in that decision between Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, U.S. Space Command Gen. James Dickinson and U.S. Air Force Secretary Frank Kelly.
“This is absolutely not over. I will continue to fight this as long as it takes to bring Space Command where it would be best served — Huntsville, Alabama,” Tuberville said Monday.
Trump and Tuberville’s friendship goes back to his endorsement of Tuberville in the Republican U.S. Senate runoff against former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions in July 2020.
At that time, Tuberville said, “I saw how he was fighting the D.C. swamp and the people all around him, and I made up my mind at that time that God had sent Donald Trump to us — and he needed some help. So that’s the reason I’m doing this today, trying to support and represent the state of Alabama and go stand beside President Donald Trump.”
Trump reciprocated, “It’s great to be speaking to the people of Alabama, a place I love, a place where we’ve had tremendous success. Where they like me and I like them — maybe love is a better word, frankly. But it’s been a great state.”
