Tuberville: ‘Some kind of diplomacy’ needed in Ukraine

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) is criticizing President Joe Biden’s approach to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Biden visited Kyiv on Monday, showing support for the country and marking one year since Russia invaded Ukraine.

Tuesday, Tuberville discussed Biden’s trip to Ukraine on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.”

“I’m for helping Ukraine, but here’s the problem, this is Joe Biden’s war, he actually could have tried to deter it before it happened, but he didn’t want to do it,” said Tuberville. “I think he’s compromised to be honest, through Ukraine and also through China.”

While Tuberville doesn’t support Putin’s efforts to take Ukraine, he believes Biden should work toward some kind of diplomatic resolution to end the war.

“They want to continue down this road of doing things their own way, which I’m not against that because I’m against Russia and China,” Tuberville said. “But there’s no diplomacy going here, nobody talks to each other, so it’s just a tough situation.”

The senator expressed frustration with Biden and other world leaders over their lack of a coherent strategy ending the conflict.

“I just got back from Munich, Germany, yesterday, from a security conference there, talking with all of NATO, talking to prime ministers, secretaries of defense, secretaries of state,” he said. “Nobody can give me an answer other than we want the same map line that we had back in 1991. And that’s basically getting all of Ukraine back. That’s getting Crimea back.

“That’s not going to happen.”

Tuberville said now is the time to again try and start up talks with Russia to come to some kind of negotiated agreement.

“We need to be sitting down and talking with Russia,” he said. “It’s just unfortunate. There’s been hundreds of thousands of people killed, and it should have never happened. Putin, he is a murderer, he’s a guy that does not believe in anything other than brute force. I can understand why a lot of people want to try and run through him and take him out of power, but he’s too powerful for that. That’s not going to happen by us giving weapons to Ukraine. That’s not going to happen.

“We have got to find some kind of diplomacy and that is not up Joe Biden’s agenda. He is not very good at that. He doesn’t want to do it.”

Tuberville said this is just another example of Biden’s failed leadership.

“I’m telling you this administration has not made one right move since they’ve been in two years,” he said. “Not just in foreign relations wise, but I’m talking about domestically. I mean look at our country right now. A lot of places are growing, but a lot of places are on fire … this Biden administration doesn’t care about helping the American people.

“They want to help their agenda and the far left radicals that are pushing this agenda.”
