Tuberville promotes free-market policies to spur economic growth — ‘This country was built on the back of hard-working people’

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) joined Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow” on Wednesday to address the state of the American economy and offer alternative policy solutions to those being implemented by the Biden administration.

Alabama’s freshman senator contrasted the free-market-oriented Trump-era policies to those of the current administration, which have paved the way for an increased role of government.

Tuberville promoted Alabama as being a right-to-work state, which allows workers to choose whether or not to join a union.

“We’re a right-to-work state in Alabama, as 27 other states are, Larry,” said Tuberville. “[In] Alabama, we have not only survived, we have really done well in the automobile industry of having six or seven automobile manufacturers come to our state because we are a Right to Work state. We give people the right to choose. That is the way it should be.”

He added, “As you said, the reconciliation, the budget resolution, that’s getting ready to come up, and it will be interesting. They’re throwing the kitchen sink in there, Larry,” referencing Democrats’ attempts to pass the labor-related PRO Act.

He went on to state that “the people of this country have the right to choose whether to be in a union or not.”

“This country was built on the back of hard-working people, and if we don’t remember it, and if we don’t get back to that, we’re not going to make it,” declared Tuberville. “[I] was a football coach forever. Work ethic is what you learn in sports, work ethic is what you learn as an American, and we’re trying to destroy that.”

He further advocated for policies that are grounded in market-based principles and touted tax reform legislation which was implemented under the prior administration.

“I love what you say, ‘release the animal spirits of the U.S. economy.’ That’s free-market, and let the people control your country because we can’t improve our country unless we go back to work. This pandemic came at a tough time,” said Tuberville.

He continued, “Thank God you and the President [Trump] and the tax cut bill that y’all had, had this economy roaring when the pandemic hit. Can you imagine this pandemic starting under Obama the way our economy – we were out of work, we were paying high taxes, corporations were moving out of the country right and left?”

Tuberville warned of Democrats’ attempts to raise taxes as progressives seek funding for their ambitious spending agenda. He believes additional taxation would prove to be detrimental to American industry.

“[Ending] the Step-up in Basis, as you were talking about, would absolutely ruin small farmers across this country,” said Tuberville. “This country was built on small business, small manufacturing, and small farms and we continue to raise taxes on these people; it’s not going to be good. It’s not going to be good. We cannot live with the tax rates that President Biden is getting ready to throw in this tax and spend bill.”

He concluded, “The economy is what runs the United States of America, and we cannot run it into the ground. And if we do, we’re going to deserve what we get. But we’re not going to allow that to happen. The Republican Party, and even some of the Democrats, I believe will say that we’re not going to do it this way. We’re not going to tax the American people. Let’s put them back to work. Let’s let them spend some of their money and get the free market going.”
