Tuberville: Doug Jones claiming to be pro-Second Amendment ‘like Bernie Sanders calling himself a free market capitalist’

Republican U.S. senatorial nominee Tommy Tuberville is pushing back against U.S. Senator Doug Jones’ (D-AL) new assertion that he will be a champion of the Second Amendment in the Senate.

As first reported by Yellowhammer News, Jones on Monday argued he is a “Second Amendment protector.”

“I can have much more influence to make sure we can protect the Second Amendment [than Tuberville],” Jones added.

Reacting to that article, Tuberville on social media said, “Placeholder Senator Doug Jones claiming he’s a ‘Second Amendment guy,’ is like Bernie Sanders calling himself a free market capitalist.”

The former Auburn University head football coach continued to provide evidence backing this analogy, including that Jones’ maiden speech on the floor of the U.S. Senate in 2018 advocated for the passage of gun control laws.

Tuberville further pointed out that Jones was assigned a “D” grade by the NRA recently. Additionally, the National Shooting Sports Foundation has given Jones a 0% rating.

Additionally, Jones has received at least $7,500 in campaign cash for his 2020 reelection bid from two out-of-state groups that exist solely to lobby for gun control legislation.

“When it comes to Doug Jones’s record on guns, Alabamians know that dog won’t hunt,” Tuberville concluded.
