Strong: Next speaker must hold line on border security, spending cuts

Dale Strong

The United States is in a time of crisis. From $33 trillion in national debt to the invasion of our southern border, America is in steep decline under Biden’s leftist regime.

House Republicans offered solutions to address these crises during the recent government funding battle. We offered a measure to cut all non-defense discretionary programs by 30% and launch a fiscal debt commission to address our national debt. This bill also included the most conservative border security legislation to ever pass the House.

Now more than ever, as our conference selects a new leader, Republicans must prove to the American public we can deliver on the conservative wins they expect from us.

Our next speaker must commit to championing conservative legislation. I want to see a  commitment to quickly return to debating single-subject appropriations bills and using their leverage against Democrats in the House, Senate, and White House to slash wasteful government spending.

Since he assumed office, Biden has added nearly $6 trillion to our national debt. Not only does this mounting debt borrow against the wealth of future generations, but Democrats’ reckless spending is crushing working families and destroying the value of the dollar.

By way of their tax-and-spend policies, Democrats are waging war against the middle class. If Republicans fail to act, this inflation spike will place our country on the fast track to financial ruin.

This Congress, conservatives have passed significant reforms to crack down on illegal  immigration across our borders. One major bill, H.R. 2 or the Secure the Border Act, requires Biden to immediately restart construction of the border wall, increases the number of Border Patrol agents, ends catch and release, and restores President Trump’s border policies that Biden ended on day one.

Democrats rally together and don’t back away from a fight. Liberals unite around their radical agenda and see to it that their rank holds the line. It’s time for Republicans to take a page from their playbook and work as one team to fight for our conservative values.

Americans gave us a House majority to stop this liberal insanity. It is crucial we choose a  speaker who will prioritize border security and spending cuts as non-negotiables for the Republican Conference.
