In the final days before the election, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) has continued his efforts to help Republican Presidential nominee Donald J Trump, and has travelled across the country as one of his top surrogates. On Saturday, when most Alabamians were watching college football, Sessions was making his pitch to swing-voters in the critical state of New Hampshire.
“I’ve been told repeatedly that you have probably the best organized state in the nation and you’re working hard, you’re knocking on doors, making phone calls, doing the bread and butter work that takes us from a close election to victory,” Sessions said at a Trump rally in Windham, New Hampshire.
In addition to in-person appearances, Sessions has also been making the rounds in other swing states via telephone, calling-in to radio programs broadcasted in battleground states.
The Alabama Senator has been an integral part of Trump’s campaign from the beginning. Just days before Alabama’s SEC primary in March, Sessions endorsed the GOP contender at a massive rally in Madison. Since then, he has gone on to serve as the leader of Trump’s foreign policy advisory team.
Before Trump’s selection of Gov. Mike Pence (R-IN), many in conservative circles speculated that Sessions could be selected as Trump’s running mate. Even with that possibility gone, Sessions is likely to have a role in a Trump administration.
Sessions initially hopped onto the Trump train because of their strong agreements on a strict immigration policy and tougher trade practices.
“This isn’t a campaign, this is a movement,” Sessions said. “Look at what’s happened. The American people are not happy with their government…Politicians have promised for 30 years to fix illegal immigration… Donald Trump will do it. You have known for years these trade agreements have not been working. We’ll soon have a vote on ‘ObamaTrade’ and it will damage America… It should not pass. Donald Trump, when he gets elected President, will see it does not pass. This movement — he doesn’t take money from political groups and lobbyists. He’s committed to leading this country in an effective way… I think at this time in America’s history, we need to ‘Make America Great Again.’”
