Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) spoke at a fundraiser Thursday evening in Birmingham for State Rep. Will Ainsworth’s campaign for lieutenant governor.
About 175 people gathered to hear the senator discuss the American dream, education and preparing the next generation for success,” according to a statement from the campaign.
“Will Ainsworth is a conservative leader Alabama can count on to lead with integrity,” Rubio said in a statement. “He has a bold policy platform focused on getting students ready for jobs in the 21st-century and growing Alabama’s economy. I am proud to support Will and honored to be with him tonight to help his campaign’s growing momentum.”
Rubio finished third in Alabama’s Republican presidential primary last year, counting nearly 19-percent of the vote but only capturing one delegate.
“I appreciate the support of Sen. Marco Rubio, who is working to bring the same kind of conservative change to Washington that I want to bring to Montgomery,” Ainsworth said in a statement. “He shares my belief that taxpayers deserve a government that is as honest, hardworking, and godly as the citizens it seeks to serve, and we both represent a fresh, new generation of leaders who are citizen servants, not career politicians.”
