U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl is blasting Attorney General Merrick Garland over what he believes to be mismanagement of the investigation into Hunter Biden.
Wednesday, Carl (R-Mobile) told Fox Business News “Mornings with Maria,” that Garland should resign or be impeached.
“I think the issue of Merrick Garland is pretty clear, that guy has got to go,” Carl said. “Now can we get it done in the next 18 months? Can we get all this process in the next 18 months? I don’t know.”
The congressman made the comments in response to recent allegations from an IRS whistleblower claiming that Garland lied to Congress about giving the U.S. Attorney “complete authority” to investigate and prosecute the president’s son.
“I’m loving this slow drip on the Bidens,” Carl said. “I like the way this information keeps leaking out. I understand that it’s probably going to be two more checking accounts that are going to come out.”
According to a Justice Department filing made public last week, Hunter Biden reached a tentative deal to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and admitting to felony gun possession.
“I would like to make a point here also,” Carl said. “They said no one has ever gone to jail for this kind of tax evasion and no one has ever gone to jail for the mishandling of guns and the drug abuse situation. We had an elected official here in Mobile County who went to jail for the exact same thing for two years … so they’re giving Hunter a free ride here, but I think his free ride is coming to and end because you have all the media beginning to turn on the Biden’s and start talking.”
While he believes Garland should be help responsible, he said the president also has some blame for how the investigation was handled.
“So they are going to come up with as many distractions as they can,” he said. “Garland is not a distraction, we need to handle that, but we don’t need our view on Garland to override what’s happening with the Biden investigation, either.”
