Redesigned car tags slated for four universities

Supporters of four state universities will soon have redesigned license plates to choose from, according to the Alabama Department of Revenue.

Beginning Aug. 1, the redesigned car tags will be available for Samford University, and the universities of Montevallo, North Alabama, and West Alabama.

The new plates will cost $50 above the state taxes and fees. Proceeds from the tag sales will go toward scholarships.

A supply of the license plates based on the registrations in each county has been ordered and will be arriving shortly, the department said.

Personalized license plates may be ordered through the Plate Reservation and Ordering System.

Organizations that were eligible to have their license plates changed but elected not to were: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Autism Acceptance, and Huntsville Hospital.
