MONTGOMERY, AL— Two-time Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning will keynote a moderated Q&A at the 2016 Jimmy Rane Charity Golf Tournament Banquet, Thursday, May 19 in Montgomery.
Founded in 2000 by Jimmy Rane, an entrepreneur and successful business owner, the Jimmy Rane Foundation has awarded more than 280 college scholarships to outstanding and deserving students. The Foundation presents its scholarship winners each May during the Jimmy Rane Charity Golf Tournament, the Foundation’s only fundraising event of the year. Previous tournaments have featured guest speakers such as Taya Kyle, widow of “American Sniper” Chris Kyle, as well as Lone Survivor Marcus Luttrell, NFL legend Terry Bradshaw, and Hall of Fame Coach Don Shula.
From being the number one overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft through his retirement this year, Peyton Manning scorched the record books and distinguished himself as arguably the best quarterback of his generation. His many on-field achievements throughout his 18 NFL seasons include Super Bowl Champion (XLI, 50), Super Bowl MVP (XLI), NFL-record five MVP awards and 14 Pro Bowl selections. Manning holds NFL career records in wins, passing yards and touchdown passes.
Manning played 14 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and four with the Denver Broncos, and he was the only starting quarterback to win a Super Bowl with two different franchises.
“Peyton Manning has made a lasting impact both on the field and off the field, and we are thrilled that he will make a featured appearance this year,” said Jimmy Rane, founder of Great Southern Wood Preserving, Incorporated, based in Abbeville, Alabama. Rane established the Jimmy Rane Foundation in 2000, and this 16th year will see the organization award its 300th college scholarship.
“Peyton’s Q&A will be a wonderful treat for our new class of scholarship recipients, as well as those who join with us to help deserving young men and women chase their dreams,” Rane said.
Festivities of The Jimmy Rane Charity Golf Tournament begin Thursday night, May 19 with a banquet at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Spa to recognize this year’s scholarship recipients. The golf tournament will be played the next day at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Capitol Hill Course in Prattville. The event traditionally attracts well-known coaches and athletes from all over the country.
