Online job ads up 3.9% over year ago

You’ve seen the “Help Wanted” signs on just about every business around the state and on social media platforms.

According to the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information Division, you weren’t seeing things.

As of December 2022, the yearly comparison of online job ads is 101,036, up 3.9% from December 2021, the division said. However, the monthly total of online job ads for December 2022 is down 0.5% from November with a decrease of 506 online ads.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are registered nurses; retail salespersons; supervisors of retail sales workers; customer service representatives; and sales reps, wholesale & manufacturingwith 15,915 ads placed for those occupations in December.

The data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

Twenty-eight percent of job ads have salaries of $75,000 and above; 22% have salaries in the $50,000-75,000 range; 18% have salaries in the $35,000-49,000 range; and 32% have salaries of $35,000 or under.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in December were Huntsville Hospital with 1,408 and UAB Health System with 1,200. The rest of the top 10 were: Walmart/Sam’s (840), University of Alabama at Birmingham (789), Auburn University (592), Baptist Health (562), Regions (540), Brookwood Baptist Health (522), Grandview Medical Center (521), and Walgreen’s (466).
