PELHAM, AL — Alabama’s largest state park is known for its breathtaking views, well-maintained hiking trails, and “epic” mountain biking trails. Now, the Alabama State Parks Department is partnering with the Birmingham-based Idlewild Adventure Company to bring a brand new camping experience to Oak Mountain State Park. Visitors and campers can now reserve a Tentsile,  a suspended tree tent system, and enjoy camping in the great outdoors in a new way—elevated above the ground.

Idlewild Adventure Company began as a climbing and rappelling business with a mission to “provide premium guided services, promote active pursuits, and inspire conscious culture.” The company’s rental programs not only include Tentsile portable treehouses, but slackline gear and a mobile rock climbing wall, according to their website.

“We are constantly looking for new ways to provide our visitors and overnight guests with exciting outdoor adventure options,” said Kely Ezell, Oak Mountain Superintendent. “Idlewild and Oak Mountain State Park are happy to offer our guests the chance to test-drive the latest in camping equipment without spending a fortune on new gear.”

Idlewild worked with the Department to have Tentsile systems accessible on-site at Oak Mountain State Park in order to encourage campers to experience the great outdoors together and help make lasting memories. Accommodations for the Tentsile system can be made for up to 12 campers.

“By partnering with concessionaires such as Idlewild, we are able to provide our guests with new and exciting outdoor recreation venues without having to add more staff, or purchase and maintain expensive gear,” said Alabama State Parks Assistant Director Rob Grant.

This isn’t the first time an Alabama State Park has worked to bring campers a unique outdoor experience.

Earlier this year the Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama, began offering primitive— and romantic—”Outpost Campsites,” where campers can spend time with their family or significant other well off the beaten path beside the emerald waters of the coast.
