Retired Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North will be the guest speaker at the Madison County Young Republicans Chairman’s Dinner on Friday, November 1, 2013 at the David Center for Space Exploration in Huntsville.
North is a #1 selling author, inventor of three U.S. patents, and is the host of “War Stories with Oliver North” on the Fox News Channel. He is also founder of the Freedom Alliance, a foundation that provides college scholarships to children U.S. military personnel killed in the line of duty.
For his service in the Marines, North was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star for valor, and two Purple Hearts for injuries he incurred while in action.
He served in the Reagan administration on the National Security Council staff. He was the U.S. government’s counter terrorism coordinator from 1982-1986, at which point he was forced to resigned. Lieutenant Colonel North was named in the Iran-Contra scandal after a supply of weapons was given to Iran in exchange for U.S. hostages and secret funds were funneled to Contra guerrillas in Nicaragua. North was found guilty on three of 12 charges, but he was later cleared of all wrongdoing.
North said after he assisted in a plan to raid Muammar Qaddafi’s terror bases in Libya, he became an assassination target by Abu Nidal. Nidal was a notorious terrorist who was killed in 2002.
North’s best-selling books include Under Fire, The Assassins, Mission Compromised, and One More Mission. His most recent book, Heroes Proved, is a story of intrigue and duplicity at the highest levels of government.
His Fox News show, “War Stories with Oliver North,” is a documentary-styled program in which he focuses on a key individual in military history, or a specific battle. He is known for ending each show with “theirs is a war story that deserves to be told.” Later this week, he will tell his story to the Republican faithful in Huntsville.
