Motion Industries expanding presence in Irondale, adding 15 jobs

Motion Industries, an industrial supplies company, is investing $11.2 million to expand its location in Irondale, a decision that will create 15 new jobs.

The company is consolidating two extant facilities into a single, 104,000 square foot building. The two previously existing facilities are a fluid-power shop and a hose-and-rubber shop.

“We are extremely excited about this new, modern facility,” said Motion Industries president Randy Breaux in a statement.

“Like investing in our people, investing in our processes is important for growth and for providing the best service to our customers. I’m looking forward to seeing this project develop and come to fruition,” he added.

According to information distributed by the company, the new consolidated building will streamline its operations and increase efficiency. Motion Industries’ main engineering department, currently located at the corporate headquarters, will move to the new facility when finished.

Headquartered in Irondale not far from the location that will undergo the announced expansion, Motion Industries was founded in Birmingham in 1946. It became a wholly owned subsidiary of Genuine Parts Company in 1976.

The firm now has over 550 locations and annual sales of $6 billion. Some, but not all, of the items distributed by Motion Industries are “bearings, mechanical power transmission products, electrical and industrial automation components, hydraulic and industrial hose, hydraulic and pneumatic components, industrial and safety products,” per a release.

Mark Brown is the vice president of business retention and expansion at the Birmingham Business Alliance. He remarked on Wednesday, “The Irondale facility will serve as a center of excellence, allowing Motion to grow their fluid power, hose and hydraulics segment. We appreciate Motion’s continued investment in the city of Irondale and glad that they call the Birmingham region as their corporate headquarters.”
